Q. The text is hard to read - it is too small and/or in Times New Roman.

A. The first thing to check is that your web browser is set up to read style sheets. This site uses a style sheet to set all text to Verdana (Windows) or Arial (Unix). It is generally accepted that these 'sans-serif' fonts are much easier to read online than a traditional 'serif' font like Times New Roman, which tends to look small on screen.

To check that style-sheets are enabled for Netscape Navigator, select 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Advanced'. The 'Advanced' tab appears - make sure that 'Enable style sheets' is checked. If you are using Internet Explorer, select 'Tools' > 'Internet options', and click the 'Accessibility' button - ensure that none of the options on the Accessibility tab are checked.

If style sheets were disabled, you should now notice a significant improvement. If you still find that the text is too small to read, select 'View' from your browser's menu (it's the same for both Netscape and IE users) and increase the font size.

Q. The pages load too slowly.

A. Please email the webmaster to report a page or pages taking too long to load, or indeed if the entire site seems slow. Efforts have been made to keep the file size of each page to an absolute minimum - most are well below 40Kb. Graphics have been used sparsely, and have been saved at the lowest resolutions possible (below a certain resolution the image quality degrades unacceptably).
